Aviation Fuel

Aviation kerosene prioritizes safety and quality, with JP54 fuel specifications for aircraft and vehicles often differing. As a result, there are rigorous quality and safety standards for aircraft fuel, along with restrictions on the components that can be used in aviation fuel.

Aviation kerosene

Aviation kerosene is a specialized petroleum-based fuel designed for aircraft propulsion. It typically meets higher quality standards than fuels used for less critical purposes, such as heating or road transportation. JP54 includes additives that help prevent icing, explosions caused by high temperatures, and other safety-related properties.

Jet fuel is a transparent to light straw-colored liquid derived from either unleaded kerosene (Jet A-1) or a naphtha-kerosene mixture (Jet B). Similar to diesel fuel, it can be utilized in both compression ignition engines and turbine engines.

JET A Types

Jet A-1 is the standard specification fuel used in the rest of the world other than the former Soviet states, where TS-1 is the most common standard. Both Jet A and Jet A-1 have a flashpoint higher than 38 °C (100 °F), with an autoignition temperature of 210 °C ( 410 °F).

Differences Between JET A and JET A-1
The primary difference is the lower freezing point of A-1;
- Jet A -40°C
- Jet A-1 -47°C

Certification
ASTM D910 / ASTM D6227
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard specifications for aviation kerosene.

Energy Content
The net energy content for aviation fuels depends on their composition. Some typical values are:
- Avgas 80, 55.65 MJ/Kg, density at 15 °C is 690 kg/m3.
- Kerosene type Jet A-1, 43.15 MJ/Kg, density at 15 °C is 804 kg/m3.
- Kerosene type Jet TS-1 (for lower temperatures), 43.2 MJ/kg.
Astana Jetfuel LLP is committed to achieving and surpassing the highest standards of aviation kerosene quality. Our company's analytical technical team rigorously tests all jet fuel components to ensure full compliance with international regulations. As a result, our aviation fuel delivers superior performance for piston-engine aircraft, enhancing efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort on every flight.

Density
In performance calculations, airline manufacturers use a density of Jet fuel around 6.7 lb/US gal or 0.8 kg/l.

Chemical Composition
Aviation fuels consist of blends of over two thousand chemicals, primarily hydrocarbons (paraffin, olefins, naphthenes, and aromatics)
The highest quality of aviation fuel compounds is achieved through multiple refining processes of crude oil, which is then mixed into distinctive compositions per manufacturing strict specifications.

Aviation kerosene refining
Astana Jetfuel LLP employs approved additives for aviation fuels, such as anti-knock agents, colorants, antioxidants, and anti-electrostatic agents, which enhance the hydrocarbon blends and guarantee the formation of the necessary properties and components.
Jet fuel, or aviation kerosene TS-1, is produced through the direct distillation of crude oil fractions. The resulting mixture consists of volatile hydrocarbons with a boiling range between 150 and 250 degrees Celsius. This type of fuel is commonly used in jet propulsion engines.
Our oil refinery is backed by accredited laboratories and a team of experienced research and development scientists. The company provides a 24-month warranty for our various grades of jet fuel.
The company actively participates in European collaborative projects, with a strong focus on developing new formulations for aviation fuel. Involvement in these initiatives ensures that Astana Jetfuel LLP will maintain its commitment to delivering the highest quality jet fuel for both private and commercial airlines worldwide.

Quality control
Astana Jetfuel LLP oversees the quality of our jet fuel throughout all stages of refining and production, from receipt and storage to the preparation for aircraft refueling.
The refinery also boasts an in-house certified laboratory, equipped with modern equipment specifically designed for quality control of Jet fuel.
The main tasks of the laboratory are:
- Quality control of aviation fuel and lubricants at the stages of aviation fuel supply for air transportation;
- Quality control of aviation fuel and lubricants working in aviation systems, assessment of the possibility of their further use;
- Quality control of aviation fuel and lubricants selected in connection with the investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents with civil aircraft.
Our qualified personnel quickly and reliably conducts all the necessary operations at the stage of the movement of the finished product from reception from tank trucks to delivery to the aircraft. Thus allowing us to guarantee our buyers, the aviation kerosene retains its quality of the product and services we provided.
The company is an active member of European collaborative projects, ambitiously seeking a new formula for aviation fuel. Participation in projects assures that Astana Jetfuel LLP will continue to provide the highest Jet fuel quality for private and commercial airlines across the globe.
